Beyond BMI: Measuring Holistic Health
While Body Mass Index (BMI) is a useful tool for screening, it doesn't tell the whole story of your health. Today, we explore other metrics that provide a better picture of your physical well-being.
Body Composition Matters
Two people can have the same BMI but vastly different body compositions. A muscular athlete might be classified as 'overweight' by BMI alone, while someone with low muscle mass might appear 'healthy' despite having high visceral fat.
Waist-to-Hip Ratio
Research suggests that the distribution of fat is as important as the amount. Fat around the midsection (visceral fat) is more closely linked to heart disease and diabetes.
